Indicator 9.4.1. CO2 emission per unit of value added

Sub-indicator

Sub-indicator 9.4.1.1. CO2 equivalent emissions by resident units per unit of GDP

Type of indicator (global, European, national)
  • Global
  • European (sdg_13_10 (s))
  • National
  • s: similar
Definition

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from resident economic units per unit of real GDP, regardless of where they actually occur

Calculation method

\[ P P I B E C O 2^{t}=\frac{E C O 2^{t}}{P I B_{2015}^{t}} \]Where: \( EC O 2^{t}\)are the CO2 emissions of the economic units resident in year t (the total national CO2 emissions of the Air Emissions Account is distributed according to the emissions of C02 by the Autonomous Communities of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GEI)) and \( PIB_{2015}^{t}\)is the gross domestic product in volume chained with reference 2015 in year t.

Observations

The indicator uses as total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to the atmosphere the one published by the Atmospheric Emissions Account, which accounts for the emissions of all resident units, regardless of the geographical location where such emissions actually occur. It is different from the data from the Atmospheric Emissions Inventory that accounts for all sources of emissions in the national territory. The estimates of the Atmospheric Emissions Account are made from the National Inventories of Atmospheric Emissions, prepared by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
