This indicator shows the trend in the percentage of land area included in the protected areas that are collected in the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.
The occupation of the soil is determined from the UNFCCC classification incorporated into the Forest Map of Spain, and is considered as ¿other lands¿ the Monte class without superior vegetation. This information is combined with the digital mapping of the protected spaces included in the Spanish Inventory of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity (Protected Natural Spaces, Natura Network 2000 or Areas protected by international instruments).

Data related to December This sheet reflects the current methodology of calculating the indicator. This indicator is under review and its methodology will be modified in the next update of the data.Disaggregation by autonomous community may not be compatible with disaggregation by type of ecosystem, so it might be convenient to do so only for the total of ecosystems, in a new subindicator.
