Metadata Sub-indicator 15.3.1.1. Proporción de tierra degradada en relación con la superficie total de tierra
Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
Target 15.3. By 2030, combat desertification, restore degraded land and soil, including land affected by desertification, drought and floods, and strive to achieve a land degradation-neutral world
Indicator 15.3.1. Proportion of land that is degraded over total land area
Sub-indicator 15.3.1.1. Proportion of degraded land relative to total land area
- Global
- National
Percentage of the total land area that has experienced a reduction or loss of biological or economic productivity and complexity of rainfed cropland, irrigated cropland or grassland, pasture, woodland and wooded areas as a result of a combination of stresses, including land use and management practices.
Land degradation extent for reporting on SDG indicator 15.3.1 is calculated using its three sub-indicators, which are:
- Land coverage trends.
- Land productivity trends
- Carbon stock trends (above and below ground), currently represented by soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks.
The degradation analysis results for each of the sub-indicators are integrated using a so-called ¿one-out, all-out¿ method, where a significant reduction or negative change in any of the three sub-indicators is considered to be land degradation, regardless of how the other two sub-indicators fare.

Administrative data that do not correspond to any statistics of the National Statistical Plan It must be reported every 4 years beginning in 2018. In the National Report 2018 the default data provided for Spain by the UNCCD has been used, once its consistency with the own evaluation (in development) has been verified for its determination with the data of the country.
