Main results

The number of mercantile companies created increased by 17.0% in July compared to the same month in 2023.
The number of dissolved companies increased by 2.4% compared to the same month in 2023.

In July, 9,704 mercantile companies were incorporated, 17.0% more than in the same month in 2023. The subscribed capital for incorporation recorded an annual decrease of 2.6% and the average subscribed capital (35,386 euros) fell by 16.7%.

In addition, 2,277 companies increased their capital, 0.6% more than in July 2023. Capital subscribed in capital increases fell by 8.9%.

The number of dissolved mercantile companies increased by 2.4% in annual rate. 77.7% of them did so voluntarily.

Results by main economic activity principal

17.4% of the mercantile companies incorporated in July were engaged in Trade and 15.8% were Real estate, financial and insurance companies. As for dissolved companies, 17.3% were engaged in Trade and 15.8% in Construction.

The economic activity with the largest subscribed capital of mercantile companies incorporated was Real estate, financial and insurance, with 153.97 million euros. In turn, Information and communications companies had the lowest capital, with 5.58 million.

Results by Autonomous Community

La Rioja (73.1%), Cantabria (71.4%) and Comunidad Foral de Navarra (64.3%) had the highest annual increases in the number of mercantile companies created in July.

In turn, Región de Murcia (-20.2%), Principado de Asturias (-8.2%) and Canarias (-2.8%) recorded the largest decreases.

Revision and updating of data

The data for 2024 are provisional and will be reviewed when the data for the same period next year are published. All results of this operation are available on INEbase.

Methodological note

The Mercantile Companies Statistics were created by Order of 30 April 1938. Their objective is to measure the demographics of companies, providing monthly information, at provincial and Autonomous Community level, on the companies incorporated, dissolved and those in which there have been changes in capital.

The source of information is the Central Mercantile Registry, which collects all provincial information on the registration of companies and entrepreneurs, as well as mercantile acts determined by law.
