September 2024. Provisional data

Main results

  • In September, 195,480 properties were registered in the property registers, 27.3% more than in the same month the previous year.
  • The number of registered property sales and purchases increased by 41.5% compared with September 2023.

The number of property transfers recorded in the property registers (from previously executed public deeds) in September was 195,480, which was 27.3% more than in the same month in 2023.

As regards registered property sales, the number of transfers was 113,777, an annual increase of 37.7%.

Sales recorded in land registers

89.1% of registered sales in September were urban properties and 10.9% were rural properties. In the case of urban properties, 61.0% were house purchases and sales.

In September, the number of sales of rural properties increased by 16.9% in terms of the annual rate and that of urban properties by 40.8%. Within the latter, housing sales recorded an annual increase of 41.5%.

Registered housing sales

92.4% of the homes transferred by sale in September were unrestricted and 7.6% were social housing.

In annual terms, the number of homes transferred by sale increased by 41.3% and the number of social housing dwellings by 43.6%.

20.2% of the homes transferred by sale and purchase in September were new and 79.8% were used.

The number of new home transactions increased by 54.9% compared with September 2023 and the number of used ones by 38.4%.

Results by Autonomous Community

Aragón (52.2%) and Comunidad de Madrid (43.4%) recorded the largest variations in the annual rates of the total number of transferred homes in September.

In turn, Comunidad Foral de Navarra (12.0%) and Canarias (15.2%), recorded the lowest annual rates.

Regarding registered home sales and purchases, the Autonomous Communities with the highest increases were Extremadura (79.3%), País Vasco (67.4%) and Principado de Asturias (57.3%).

In turn, Comunidad Foral de Navarra (18.0%), Illes Balears (18.5%) and Región de Murcia (32.2%) recorded the smallest decreases.

The data for 2024 are provisional and will be reviewed when the data for the same period next year are published. All results of this operation are available on INEbase.

Methodological note

The Statistics on Transfer of Property Rights provides information on the number of rights over real estate transferred during the reference month, on a national level, by provinces and Autonomous Communities.

The information on transfers of property rights is obtained from the information available in the Land Registers throughout Spain, by virtue of a collaboration agreement signed in 2004 between the two institutions.
