Concept selected: Large family indicator
- Definition
-
A family nucleus is considered to be a large family if the couple, or the father or mother in single-parent nuclei, cohabit with 3 or more common or exclusive children, with the following characteristics: single persons under 21 years of age, or single persons, aged 21 to 25 years old, studying VTII, Advanced VT, Diploma degree, University degree, Architecture, Engineering, Doctorate, Graduate Course or the equivalent. This definition is very similar to the currently valid legal definition, although it may not consider all nuances (for example, those related to the disability of any of the children). This variable does not include large families that fulfilled these conditions at some point in time, but no longer fulfil them at present, or couples who had 3 or more children but never fulfilled the aforementioned conditions and cohabited with their parents at the same time.
